The new routes, introduced by British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling, will provide travellers with direct access to captivating destinations across the globe, reaffirming Heathrow‘s status as a premier gateway to the world. Ancient Roman mosaics, glittering golden beaches and mouthwatering culinary delights await Heathrow passengers this summer.
Passengers travelling through Heathrow over the busy Easter period can expect a smooth journey through security and with over 320 retail and food and beverage units across the airport, there are plenty of options for eating, drinking, shopping and entertainment. Last year, Heathrow completed 36 retail development projects, including brand new stores for new retailers, new concepts and refits for existing retailers, and other exciting refreshes to improve the retail offer for passengers. Just this month, Heathrow opened a new Bottega Venetta pop-up in Terminal 2 for lovers of luxury, as well as a new M&S in Terminal 5 for those seeking some supplies on the way back from their travels.
Ross Baker, Chief Commercial Officer, Heathrow said: “We are delighted to see 6 new airline routes commencing at Heathrow this summer season. Last year, we served 79 million passengers, and we expect to serve more travellers with a record breaking 2024.”

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – British Airways
From April 20, Heathrow is increasing its service to Abu Dhabi, where travellers can marvel at the grandeur of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, experience thrilling desert safaris, and indulge in the vibrant culture of this one-of-a-kind Emirati city. Last year, over 1 million lucky passengers visited this Arabian gem from Heathrow.
Kos, Greece – British Airways
Lovers of Greece will be delighted to see this route return for the first time since 2022. As of May 18, travellers can bask in the sun on golden beaches, explore ancient ruins steeped in history, and enjoy authentic Greek cuisine for a truly unforgettable island experience.
Izmir, Turkey – British Airways
Just in time for half term getaways, from May 18, British Airways invites travellers to uncover the hidden gems of the Aegean coast, where ancient history meets modern charm amidst the ruins of Ephesus and the busy bazaars of this coastal Turkish city. This is the first time Heathrow have flown to Izmir since 2019.
Bangalore, India – Virgin Atlantic:
From March 31, Virgin Atlantic opens a world of opportunities with its new route from Heathrow to Bangalore, inviting passengers to explore the vibrant tech hub, cultural diversity, and culinary delights of the “Silicon Valley of India.” Last year, hundreds of thousands of passengers travelled to India’s most vegan- friendly city from Heathrow.
Barcelona, Spain – Vueling:
Passengers seeking an Easter holiday have more options to travel to the beautiful city of Barcelona this summer season. From April 7, they can wander through the historic streets of the Gothic Quarter, immerse themselves in the architectural wonders of Gaudi and soak up the sun on Barceloneta Beach. Last year, over 500,000 passengers travelled to the popular destination from Heathrow.
Paris-Orly, France– Vueling:
On April 7, Vueling will extend its reach from Heathrow to Paris-Orly, offering convenient access to the heart of France’s iconic capital city in time for the 2024 Summer Olympics. This is the first time Heathrow has served the route to Paris-Orly since 2017.
