In addition to the usual payment according to the time and distance tariffs set by each taxi carrier, passengers will also be able to purchase vouchers for a taxi ride from the Airport to the city centre and Pārdaugava at the Riga Airport Visitor Centre.
A voucher system will allow passengers and Airport guests to choose taxi rides at a predetermined and clearly defined price, regardless of the time spent on the road and the number of kilometres driven in the zone of validity of the vouchers. Passengers can use the previously purchased vouchers in taxis of the carriers that have received the special license cards to operate in the Airport territory — “XTaxi” and “TaksiLV”. These taxis are located on the first line at the exits of the arrivals terminal.
Before the ride, passengers should present the voucher to the taxi driver, who will validate it and check its validity. The voucher is valid for one ride from the Airport to a destination in Riga city centre or in Pārdaugava within the voucher zone. If the final destination of the ride is further outside the voucher zone, the passenger pays for the onward ride in the usual way, using the taximeter.
The zone of voucher covers most hotels in Riga, and it is expected that the majority of users of this service will be international guests, such as tourists or business travellers, for whom the taxi service from the Airport will be purchased in advance by the hosting party. Please see the map of the voucher zone in the annex. Roughly, it includes the territory between Krišjāņa Valdemāra, Skanstes, Lāčplēša and Valmieras Streets to Tallinas Street in the centre of Riga, as well as the territory from Kārļa Ulmaņa gatve to Kurzemes prospekts in Pārdaugava.
The RIX Riga Airport Visitor Centre is located on the 1st floor of the Airport terminal, in Arrivals Hall E. It is not possible to use the voucher partially or repeatedly. The validity period of the purchased voucher is three months from the moment of purchase. In the future, it will be possible to purchase vouchers on the Airport’s e-commerce platform.
Passengers who do not wish to use vouchers for their rides from the Airport will continue to be able to pay the time and distance rates set by each taxi carrier, choose public transport, a car-sharing service or leave the Airport in their own car or a pickup car.
