PANAMA CITY – Committed to the fight against breast and prostate cancer for over two decades, Copa Airlines joins the Pink Ribbon initiative through the “Get Tested Early” campaign. This year, the airline renews its commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness about the importance of early detection. To convey this special message of awareness and prevention, Copa Airlines introduces their newly designed Boeing 737MAX9 aircraft that will take flight throughout the Americas. The initiative not only celebrates two decades of ongoing support and commitment to the cause, but it honors the airline staff who have bravely faced these illnesses.
“Copa Airlines is determined to raise awareness about the health and wellness of people. We are confident that our new aircraft will not only fly through the Americas but will also touch the hearts of those who see the photos, and videos or have the privilege to fly on the airplane. It serves as a powerful reminder about the importance of early detection and prevention. We want to share a message of prevention and hope to our passengers, our dedicated staff, and our valued customers because we believe that, together, we can make a difference in the fight against breast cancer,” said Peter Donkersloot, Vice President of Human Resources at Copa Airlines.
In addition to painting one of their aircraft in a shade of pink, Copa Airlines donated $50,000 to the National Oncology Institute of Panama furthering their commitment to support the construction of their new chemotherapy treatment facility which will double its current capacity. This gesture reinforces the ongoing commitment of the airline to support the international fight against breast cancer. According to the Health Organization of Panama (OPS), cancer is the second leading cause of mortality in the Americas. Therefore, the “Get Tested Early” message in Copa Airlines’ new aircraft hopes to transcend barriers by being a constant reminder of the importance of both prevention and early detection of this illness.
The new aircraft also symbolizes the result of numerous ongoing initiatives in the fight against cancer, many of which have taken place over the last decade. Some of these initiatives include their ongoing support to the National Association of Chemotherapy Patients (ASONAPAQ). Copa Airlines has donated more than $500,000 to this organization which guarantees adequate nutrition for those individuals undergoing treatment at the Oncology Institute, providing valuable support to those who are most in need.
As an integral part of their strategy, the airline actively promotes healthy lifestyles. This includes providing free breast and prostate exams and organizing health fairs throughout the year. In addition, the airline offers staff a health clinic and assistance over the phone to those employees and their families seeking emotional support while facing cancer related illnesses and other health conditions.
